Carnivores, Prepare to Stampede Dinosaur BBQ in Gowanus

After months of construction, protracted renovations post Sandy and the relocation of a beloved street mural, Brooklyn's first Dinosaur Bar-B-Que outpost will open in Gowanus tonight at 5 p.m.

Judging from the droves of media, family members and friends (oh, hey, Dale Talde!) in attendance at the Tuesday night opening party, Brooklynites should expect to see a stampede heading toward the canal.

Located at 604 Union Street, the newest Dinosaur Bar-B-Que outpost is an airy, barn-like space featuring a gigantic ceiling mobile made from bottles reclaimed in New Orleans, deep red vinyl booths and various carnival ephemera. Outside, a handful of picnic benches make up the patio seating, with potted plants acting as dividers from the sidewalk.

Favorites from the Harlem restaurant, such as brisket sandwiches, juicy wings, peppery mac 'n' cheese and golden, moist cornbread have found their way to the outer borough.

But Brooklyn has a few of its own specialty items, too: The Ode to Domolise is a sandwich layering brisket, beef gravy, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickled onion, jalapeño relish, and BBQ mayo for a gut-busting yet wallet-friendly $10.95. Meanwhile, vegheads will love the F.G.T.V, a hefty two-hander stacking fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, shredded cabbage, and a bit of chow-chow—also $10.95.

Representatives for the restaurant told Patch that live music will be coming to the venue in the future. Takeout service will begin on June 24.

Until then, you will just have to suffer the wait times at the bar and sip a Donkey Punch or two, or three.

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is located at 604 Union Street; 347-429-7030.
