Brooklyn water and bagels will be available for sale at the Barclays Center— through a company based out of Florida, says the New York Post.
The article says that arena officials have tapped Brooklyn Water Enterprises, based out of Boca Raton, Fla., to sell bottled water and bagels at events. The Post says that the water is actually produced in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and upstate New York, with a 14-step filtration process.
"There’s nothing Brooklyn about this water," Councilwoman Letitia James, D-Brooklyn, told the Post, which noted that there are about 440 bagel shops in the city, with about 115 in Brooklyn.
When the Post asked if any locally-owned Brooklyn bagel shops were considered as vendors, one Barclays Center official was reported saying: "I don’t think we pursued another bagel place."
Earlier this month, arena officials claimed that they were to sell snacks and drinks, and produce utensils. According to Barclays Center spokesman Barry Baum, they were distributing surveys through community groups and ads in newspapers, looking for suggestions.
