Ample Hills Creamery, voted best ice cream in New York by ZAGAT and Village Voice, has broken ground on its much-anticipated new location at 305 Nevins Street (at the corner of Union) in Gowanus this spring.

This 3,600 square foot, two-story ice cream store will open in May 2014 adjacent to The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club, across the canal from The Greene Building, and a short walk from Whole Foods.

Owners Brian Smith and Jackie Cuscuna opened Ample Hills in Prospect Heights in May 2011 to massive crowds caused the store after only four days because they sold out of ice cream.

"This time around, no line, no matter how long, will cause us to close up shop," they said in a release.

The corner building will be a retail shop with indoor, counter and outdoor seating, a manufacturing facility where customers can watch as ice cream is made and a second floor with adjoining outside deck will be available for private parties, special events and ice cream classes.
