A Ginger-Molasses Cookie at Root Hill Cafe

Little Buddy Biscuit Company is now baking for Root Hill, serving up scrumptious sweet and savory baked goods.

When Little Buddy Biscuit Company s, there were plenty of loyal fans that mourned the loss of the bakery’s creative biscuits and other baked goods.

Luckily for them (and me) owner Pete Solomita is now heading up the baking operations at Root Hill Café, on Fourth Avenue and Carroll Street.

In addition to Little Buddy’s scrumptious biscuits,, Root Hill stocks a variety of satisfying sweets like a tasty ginger-molasses cookie, which I munched on this week while I worked perched from a seat in the back of the café, sipping iced tea and typing away.

Studded with pieces of candied ginger, it was rich and chewy with dark molasses, but not too sweet as molasses cookies often are. The candied ginger provided a refreshing bite.

Though such a cookie really seems more apt for colder weather and a mug of something hot, I was surprised how well it paired with an iced tea and a cool spring breeze.

Of course, if it’s Little Buddy’s biscuits that you miss the most, they’re there too – in ever-tempting flavors like black pepper cheddar and chipotle pepper, corn, muenster and scallion.
