Photo of the Day: Fungus Among Us

They are easy to miss, but all you have to do is look.

Fungi are everywhere; they grow in soil, on trees and even decomposing animals.

Fungi can be poisonous and other are eatable and used to make soups, as a leavening agent for bread and even used to ferment wines and beers. They have also been used to make penicillin and cholesterol-lowering medicine.

But fungi are also great subjects for a photo. The fungus in this picture is growing on the base of a tree on First Street. The bulbous and maybe even alien-like characteristics can either gross you out, or intrigue.

So, today we want you guys to send in your best pictures following the theme of “Fungus Among Us!”

Either upload your pictures here, or send them to will.yakowicz@patch.com

Being that it is an election year, if you and other registered voters scream loudly enough, someoneRead More will hear you. This sounds like a job for the 7 On Your Side, or NY1 who may be able to reach NYCDOT and Higher Ranking officials at the 78th PCT to respond to your complaint and do something.
