Attention Artists: GO Registration Closes Friday

The community-curated exhibit GO will open in December, but artists must register now.

Does your art belong in the big leagues? Now's your chance to have it shown at the Brooklyn Museum.

GO, a community-curated art show, empowers the Brooklyn art-loving public to vote on the local work they want to see appear in a special exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, set to debut on Dec. 1.

Participating artists must have a studio in Brooklyn, and have it open to the public during GO's open studio weekend on Sept. 8 and 9. Registered voters will stop by the studios, and vote on which artist's work they'd like to see appear in the exhibition.

The deadline for artist registration is coming up fast—participants must enter by Friday, June 29. Voter registration opens on Aug. 1.

So far, 1128 artists in 67 neighborhoods around the borough have registered, according to GO's website.

Visit the GO website to register, and for more information on the event.

"Must have a studio"? Many artists do not have/cannot afford to have a studio. An artist does not necessarily have to have a studio to produce great artwork. Many painters work plein air. It appears that this exhibition is limited to moneyed folk with stereoptypical trappings and accoutrements.

If you have been in business for some time, share your success strategies. A local Toastmasters International club is a great place to get started, as Hernandez and Levinson say. Once you get comfortable speaking, talk at Lion's Club, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce meetings, and on local radio shows, as they suggest.
