Touring Guitarist Brings It All Back Home

Where/When: Freddy's Bar, 627 5th Ave, Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.

Why Go: Immediately following the release party for his new solo album, "In Place", Brooklyn guitarist Daryl Shawn headed out to the West Coast to begin his thirteenth solo tour. Two weeks on a mix of trains and buses took him to San Francisco, Vancouver, Chicago and many points in between. But now, Shawn is back in home in Brooklyn and will lug his road-honed chops to play tonight at Freddy's. Shawn combines his taste for unusual chords with the guitar-thumping techniques of flamenco and rhythms culled from African music to create an eclectic mix fueled by a healthy appetite for rocking out.

Hurricane Relief Effort at Two Boots - Call for Volunteers!

Where/When: Two Boots of Brooklyn, 514 2nd St, Saturday, Nov. 10 all day.

Why Go: Volunteers are still needed to help the continued effort to prepare and serve hot food and sandwiches to families in the Rockaways, Coney Island, Gerritsen Beach, Gowanus, Red Hook and other Sandy-affected areas through the weekend. Thousands of people have not had a hot meal in over a week. If you'd like to volunteer, call Lina Canney at 718-499-3253. People with cars (that also have full tanks of gas!) are desperately needed to make trips to deliver hot food and supplies. Able-bodied people are also needed to run up and down stairs to deliver food door-to-door in housing projects.
