People, get ready for some eccentric, electric, musical fun for the whole family with Mil’s Trills five-show series starting this Saturday!
Amelia Robinson, who created Mil’s Trills in 2010, is a Brooklyn native who plays the electric ukulele and sings “original, quirky and whimsical songs,” as her website describes, with a rotating cast of 80-plus musicians. Mil’s Trills is a “series of live performances introducing grownups with young children to the world of instruments.” Her shows are suitable for children, from babies to 4 years old.
If you want to catch Mil’s Trills, come out to the Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch at Grand Army Plaza this Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. The show is free and will take place in the Dweck Center inside the library. Make sure to come early to get a seat!
The next show is Wednesday, March 6 at 3:30 p.m. at The Rock Shop on Fourth Avenue, between President and Carroll streets. There is a $15 suggested donation per child with an adult, and $5 for additional siblings. Don’t forget to bring blankets, instruments and shakers and be prepared to freestyle! ONE-DER Woman, Liz Shapiro, who “spreads compassion and unity with her lyrical superhero powers,” will accompany Mil’s Trills.
Next Friday, March 8 at 4 p.m. Mil’s will be at The Playroom at Egg in DUMBO, 72 Jay Street. This show will be an intimate gathering of friends and neighbors in a Mil's Trills Early Childhood Music Lesson. Kids will explore musical opposites, dynamics and rhythms through original songs and stories. Tickets cost $20 per child with adult, and $5 for siblings. The next day, Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m., is a feast of “kindie” music. Mil’s Trills will hit the stage at the Knitting Factory (361 Metropolitan Ave, Williamsburg) with Park Slope’s Rolie Polie Guacamole. This event only $10 at the door, $35 for family of four. The last show in Robinson’s series is the Hip Tot Music Festival at Littlefield Art & Performance Space (622 Degraw Street between Third and Fourth avenues) on Sunday, March 10 at 12 p.m. Mil’s Trills will open for Alex & The Kaleidoscope Band.
