Megan Berk: Art Reception

In abstracted landscapes and altered architectural spaces, Megan Berk’s paintings explore the impulse towards heaven. A sort of bright beyond is suggested where light meets shadow. These moments of possibility allude as much to the idea of heaven as they might to an idealized future, the idea of Summer before it has arrived, or the improbable optimism that drives creative progress. They seek to transform moments of longing, self-delusion, and optimism into form and color. The seduction in these moments reveals the fantasy involved in so much of everyday life, as well as the power of images to locate and evoke desire.

Megan Berk was born in Los Angeles and currently lives and works in Brooklyn. Her work has been shown at Silas Marder Gallery, Bowman/Bloom Gallery, and in the Recession Art show “Works Progress” at the Invisible Dog Art Center. Her recent show “Weird Party on the Other Side of the Hedge,” at RAC Gallery on the Lower East Side, was a Editor’s Pick in the L Magazine.
