Spoke the Hub presents "Hærfest", the first ever concert granted to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners of the infamous and zany Winter Follies showcase held annually in January at Spoke the Hub's studio theater in the Gowanus Arts Building. The Winter Follies contest offers 20 artists five minutes of stage time to dazzle the audience, who in turn vote for their favorites. The winning artists at this year's event were: dancer/choreographer Amber Sloan, percussion group Grace Drums and dance-theater artist Adrian Jevicki, who will each premiere expanded versions of the 5-minute pieces that won them this opportunity.

Amber Sloan will present “Golden Delicious”, a premiere of a newly completed duet danced by Ms. Sloan and Matthew Rogers, with original music composed by Joshua M. Benash. The work investigates the flesh of the body as portrayed in both beauty and sin. Sloan constructs a visceral world that is grounded in systematic structure.

Grace Drums, whose musicians include Gabriella Dennery, Gena Jefferson, Arlene Hale, and Catherine Poku, is an all-women’s percussion and vocal ensemble with the simple mission of making joy contagious. For "Hærfest", this infectiously enthusiastic and charismatic group will present a series of pieces ranging from traditional African vocals to Grace Drums originals of song, spoken word, and percussion arrangements, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and a tap to your feet. Their celebratory work takes audience members on a journey of rhythm toward renewal, connection, and thanksgiving.  Visit gracedrums.com for more information about the group, its artists, performances and workshops.

“The DEEP”, by Adrian Jevicki, is an agressively physical piece of theater that looks at the movement of relationships between two and three dimensions, and then explores the mess left in the wake of that journey.
