filmwax film series presents EXCUSE ME, MR. SPEAKER

Join Adam Schartoff, film director Justin Sullivan and activist Paul Newell for a screening and Q&A.

Excuse Me, Mr. Speaker… was shot on digital video over the seven months preceding the September 9th, 2008 Primary campaign.

It was directed and edited by award-winning documentarian Justin Sullivan.  He decided to make the film after learning that his friend Paul Newell was going to challenge the Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and that Newell was offering full access to his campaign.  Silver and the other challenging candidate Luke Henry were both invited to participate and they each declined.

Sullivan, who has previously directed Pip and Big Blue — The NYC Handball Documentary, shot most of the 75-minute movie himself.  Before making documentaries he was a staff reporter at The New Haven Register and is currently a researcher at Us Weekly.
