Dubl Handi / Setting Sun @ Tea Lounge

9pm - Dubl Handi

Dubl Handi is comprised of guy/girl team Hilary Hawke and Brian Geltner. The band was formed as a spin-off of Hilary's songwriter project, Hilary Hawke & the Flipsides as a way to play traditional banjo music at farmer's markets, dances, and to be able to travel a lot! The rhythmic groove is owed in most part to Brian Geltner (Wiyos) who plays a kick drum made out of vintage suitcases, snare drum and adds to the excitement with splashes of sounds from spoons, castanets, washboards. Besides just traditional music, the band owns up to writing a few fun tunes as well!

10:30pm - Setting Sun

The title to Setting Sun’s fourth album, Fantasurreal, is the perfect made-up combination of two words to capture the spirit and sound of the record. Largely the work of one man, Gary Levitt, Setting Sun creates a fantastical mix of whimsy and brightly hued pop, matched to a surreal lyrical sensibility that’s the product of either a vivid imagination or some good drugs. Cuts like the leadoff song “Driving” and the six-minute paean to sustained adolescence, “Don’t Grow Up,” recall Grandaddy in their mutations of organic instrumentation.
