Andrew Demetre | Radio XUAR: The Unheard Music

ANDREW DEMETRE | RADIO XUAR:The Unheard Music.

New York-based cultural adventurer/writer/performer Andrew Demetre performs an evocative monologue and DJ set. A musical and spoken word journey to Xinjiang Province,Far Western China-the traditional lands of the Uyghur people. Alone on stage, armed with an iPod, Demetre bears witness, presenting rare Uyghur music selections ranging from the deep traditional roots to Uyghur Pop-a narrative spiced with music, legends, reflections of travel in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Radio XUAR:The Unheard Music pays homage to important Uyghur musical figures and their struggle to squeeze their expression through the tight filters of the CPC (Communist Party of China) while trying to keep their musical and cultural legacies, and sometimes themselves, alive.
