Author Elizabeth Strout to Speak at Congregation Beth Elohim Wednesday

The reading series Brooklyn By the Book's next event is this Wed., April 3 at 7:30 p.m.

 

Meet a great author during this month’s Brooklyn by the Book series!

This month, the two Park Slope institutions Congregation Beth Elohim and Community Bookstore, will bring Elizabeth Strout, author of “The Burgess Boys,” to CBE on Eighth Avenue on Wed., April 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Brooklyn by the Book is a monthly series that aims to “provoke discussion, celebrate the life of the mind and tap into the rich culture of writing and reading,” a release from Community Bookstore said.

This event— on April 3 at 7:30 p.m., will feature Strout, the 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel-in-stories “Olive Kitteridge.”

Strout will read from her newest book, “The Burgess Boys,” which is a story of two brothers weighed down by long-hidden family secrets, which will be uncovered after their nephew's actions result in scandal.

In her novel, Strout explores themes of race, immigration and class through the Burgess family's struggles set in Park Slope and Maine.
