5 Things To Do This Week: June 24-28
Our roundup of must-see summer events in Brooklyn.
Monday
The Bell House's mega-popular event series Ask Me Another, "a rambunctious hour that blends brainteasers and local pub trivia night with comedy and music," will have a special guest tonight: Paul Fieg, director of Bridesmaids and creator of Freaks and Geeks! Doors at 6:30 p.m. Show at 8 p.m. Tickets $10.
Tuesday
BAMcinemaFest is now going full tilt. Have you snagged a seat at a screening yet? Tonight, get your film fix with the added bonus of a live after show with Peaches Does Herself, a "filmed version of Peaches’ epic stage performance in Berlin that tells the loosely biographical tale of her rise to stardom and a romance that ends in heartbreak." Afterward the provocative artist will perform with the Naked Cowgirl. Expect lots of nudity, profanity and shock rock. (7:30 p.m., $30) If that doesn't float your boat, check out the intense documentary God Loves Uganda about a group of right-wing missionaries. (9:30 p.m., $14)
Wednesday
Head to Littlefield for Tiny Rhino Summer Edition, a ten-minute play festival, featuring six different playwrights, cocktails, food and giveaways. Each play will include the same five elements: something happens in slow motion, someone puts on sunscreen, someone does an impersonation, someone uses the phrase "staycation", and someone brags. Hilarity will ensue! 7:30 p.m. $10
Thursday
Only in NYC can you take in a renowned dance troupe for free in the park. Tonight, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, an all-male classical ballet company, will perform en travesti (drag) excerpts from Swan Lake, Pas De Deux and more at the Prospect Park Bandshell as park of Celebrate! Brooklyn. 8 p.m.Free/$3 suggested donation.
Friday
Remember how much fun the Gowanus Nite Market was this winter? Well the great minds behind that shopping-eating-drinking-boogie fest have created a new summer sister series: The Grove Alley Nite Market. Set behind Fulton Mall, the strip will feature more than a dozen vendors, food trucks, flowing Brooklyn Brewery beer, and performances by three bands beginning at 5 p.m. The event is free, but RSVPs are preferred.
