5 Things: Short Film Festival, Tropfest New York 2013

A round up of events around Brooklyn.

1. Celebrate World Music. Head to Prospet Park's Bandshell tonight for Celebrate Brooklyn's  line-up features Calexico / Susana Baca / Radio Jarocho & Akoko Nante Ensemble. Prospect Park West at 9th Street. 7 p.m., but get there early.  $3 suggested donation. 

2. Honor the Short Film. On the other side of Prospect Park, there's Tropfest New York 2013, the world's largest short film festival. Liev Schreiber will host, local bands will perform, and excellent cinema will be shown. Music begins at 3:00pm and films will be screened at 8 p.m. The Nethermead, near the Lincoln Road entrance. See the Tropfest full schedule and a map of the location. 3. Inspect the Yard. If you have a tween, or almost tween at home, head to Yard Inspectors Tour: A Brooklyn Navy Yard Adventure. Kids ages 6 to 13 and their families can follow clues through the Yard to find its "hidden treasures" such as industrial cranes and wind-powered street lamps. There's also a museum of the history of the Navy Yard with interactive media and an organic rooftop cafe with a view of the city. $22 adults, $20 children. Advance purchase advised. Brooklyn Navy Yard BLDG92, 63 Flushing Ave. Noon. 

4. See a band. Don't want to trek all the way to the Prospect Park Bandshell? Tonight at The Way Station you can hear David & Olivia + Brandi & The Alexanders. Show starts at 9. Free. 

5. Design a game. Inspire your teen's creativity at Come Out & Play Jam: A Live-Action Game Design Challenge. Kids 11-18 will work with professional game designers to learn key game design principles, then break into teams to design their own games using everything from kickballs and traffic cones to rubber chickens and hula hoops. Park Slope Armory YMCA, 361 15th Street between 7th and 8th avenues, 10 a.m.
