5 Things: Brooklyn Half Marathon Pre-party

What you need to know, pre-coffee.

1. Experience the ultimate in electronica.
The use of computers in creating popular music has far exceeded novelty to become the norm. But the Princeton Laptop Orchestra takes things one step further by removing all tradtional instruments from the stage and relying solely on keyboards to create richly textured masterpieces. Check out the groups' subset Sideband, which performs at Roulette Intermedium tonight. 8:30 p.m. $15.

2. Get Gatsbied. If you still haven't seen the film that (for better or for worse) everyone is talking about, why not take in a show in a theater befitting of the opulent themes presented in the storyline. The Great Gatsby, featuring Leo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, is screening in 3D at Peter Jay Sharp Building at BAM. Multiple showtimes. $16 General Admission.

3. Race over to the Brooklyn Half Marathon Pre-Party and Expo. Whether you're planning to run or cheering on a participant, there's much to see at the three day pre-party taking place in DUMBO in advance of the Brooklyn Half-Marathon this weekend. The festival will include music, food and, naturally, many opportunities for shopping New Balance running gear, among other brands—generally with awesome discounts. Old Tobacco Warehouse, 26 New Dock Street. 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

4. Chuckle and sway. The Interview Show features 15- to 20-minute interviews between host Mark Bazer and his guests, with comedy and music performances in between. Normally a monthly Chicago event, this iteration will include Kathleen Hanna (musician, artist, activist; Bikini Kill and The Julie Ruin), Sam Lipsyte (fiction writer, "The Ask," "The Fun Parts") and New Yorker television critic Emily Nussbaum, among others. Get thee to Union Hall tonight. 8 p.m. $8.

5. Hold that thought. Alternate side parking rules are suspended today, May 16, for the Jewish holiday Shavuot.
