Winter Storm Closes All Public Schools, Causes Travel Delays

Schools closed, alternate side parking suspended.

Winter Storm Hercules hit Brooklyn hard Thursday night into Friday morning. The resulting five-to-eight inches of snow across the region along with freezing temperatures and icy conditions was enough to close all New York City Public Schools.

The windchill in the early morning across NYC is currently in the negatives, and Mayor Bill de Blasio has urged all New Yorkers to stay off the roads. Buses and subways continue to run with delays expected.

Alternate side parking has also been suspended to facilitate snow removal, though meters are still in effect. The winter storm warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Friday.
