Upgrades Coming to The Pavilion

The theater's ownership shares that a renovation is on the way.

The Pavilion Theater is getting a makeover.

After employees of the Prospect Park West movie theater last week to Park Slope Parents publicly apologizing for the decrepit state of the cinema, the movie theater’s corporate ownership called Patch to share the change is, in fact, on the way.

“We are definitely in the process of making some big changes there,” said Jill Calcaterra, the Chief Marketing Officer for Cinedigm, which owns the theater.

In the next few months the theater will undergo major renovation, including new paint, seats, carpets and more. The specifics have not yet been revealed, but the theater is currently accepting bids for much of the work.

“It’s an 80-year-old theater, when we first got it put in a bunch of changes,” said Calcaterra. “We’re in the process again of a very significant overhaul of a lot of the infrastructure. We apologize for the situation right now but its definitely on our radar.”

Last Thursday the theater’s assistant general manager, Jennifer Duran, told Patch that theater staff had put in countless requests for repairs and upgrades to Cinedigm, only to be ignored.

The timetable for the upgrade has not yet been finalized, but once construction is underway the theater may be closed for a few weeks.

As for the longstanding rumors that the Pavilion is infested with bed bugs?

"During a routine check last August, we found one bug in one auditorium. Although we were not certain it was a bed bug, in order to be conservative and ensure no risk to our customers we treated all auditoriums," said Calcaterra, emphasizing the that theater is now regularly treated, most recently in January.

This article was updated to include information from Cinedigm on the rumors of bedbug at the theater.
