The Week in Park Slope

What happened this week on Park Slope Patch.

This week Park Slope was making headlines!

The biggest story of the week, of course, was the last Tuesday. Our reporter Miriam Coleman was on the scene, chatting with students, teachers and local politicians about the proposal to add a fourth high school to the campus.

On Monday, we were also live from the , where, among other highlights, the Sanitation Commissioner said Brooklyn was not slighted in the blizzard response:

"I dont believe the outer boroughs were left out as far as the response," said Sanitation Commissioner Doherty. "We did not ignore them."

Patch also checked in with Brooklyn Community Board 6 to meet , the community board's new chairperson.

And there was quite a bit of food news this week. Prospect Park is on the hunt for new, , Comida added a new program, and we found out that has shuttered.

At a Thursday Brooklyn Community Board 7 meeting, for a hotel on Prospect Avenue, to be developed by the owners of Grand Prospect Hall. Folks were particularly excited about a 400-space public parking garage that's part of the proposal.

The owner of the poodle that recently drowned in Prospect Park spoke with us about :

“You couldn’t get on a ladder and scoot yourself out there and be safe. There are no ropes, there are no life preserves, no floatation devices. If there were some sort of inflatable raft, anybody could go out there safely."

There was some fun stuff, too, this week: Heather Mayer reported on the popular dance series and reporter Paulina Reso checked in with the in Gowanus, where her broken umbrella was fixed (sort of) for a mere $5.
