THE STOOP: A Burned-Out TV, Velvet Slippers, Cookbooks, a Shabby Shelf and a Brooklyn Pillow

Our weekly round up of Brooklyn stoop items.

It was another week full of stoop-side surprises!

Some junk we found was a TV set with the tube burnt out in the middle, a single Adidas Samba (the only shoes fifth graders wear, remember?) and a few Christmas stockings.

A golden gem was a pair of Gucci velvet slippers, which I almost tried on myself.

There were two cookbooks by Jeff Smith, which appeared to have some killer recipes and were in good condition.

The first collection of recipes was entitled, “The Frugal Gourmet.”

The other one was full of international recipes and was entitled “The Frugal Gourmet Cooks Three Ancient Cuisines, China, Greece, Rome.”

The best part of these books, not including recipes for delicious foreign dishes, was the covers. On one of them, Smith was smiling beneath his big, grey goatee, surrounded by a bounty of food while he was holding a bowl with one hand and clutching chopsticks with the other, poised with class and international delicacy.

There was a collection of AAA travel guides from Alabama, Georgia, Florida and North and South Carolina. To go along with the guides, there was a travel-sized iron and steamer.

A silly find was also a mini pillow with a moose, standing in a lake, emblazoned on it with the words “Brooklyn, NY.” Is there such a thing as a Brooklyn moose?

But, the coolest item was a shelf/stand with its paint chipped all over. But instead of looking like a hunk of junk, it totally pulled off the “shabby chic” style.
