THE DISH OF THE WEEK: Fried Chicken and Mac and Cheese at Union Market

A southern, stick-to-your-ribs meal for a Sunday night.

There are a couple of reasons this meal is good: it’s easy (no cooking, just heating up), it’s cheap (under $10) and it’s delicious!

The fried chicken is crispy; the skin is thick, but not too hard and is not greasy. There is plenty of meat inside with a juicy, full flavor.

The mac and cheese is also excellent, and is a great companion with the poultry.

It comes in thick cut squares and is sprinkled with pumpkin seeds. It is cheesy, of course, and its taste is thick and creamy.

Okay, this meal may not be fancy, it may not be from a hip, candle-lit restaurant that boasts a menu of hyper-local and organic food, but it is what it is: good, tasty and affordable.
