St. Patty's in the Slope

This week, the Late Shift brings you the neighborhood's best, just in time for Saint Patrick's Day.

Ah, Saint Patrick’s Day — the one day of the year when everyone is Irish (doubly so if they already are) and drinking on a weekday is not only acceptable, but encouraged.

This yearly celebration of all things green and shamrock-y is often signaled by the following: corned beef and cabbage, green beer parades, and, of course, strong Irish whiskey—Jameson for the Dublin-loving set, and Bushmills for those showing allegiance to Belfast.

In this, Park Slope is no exception, displaying the same accouterments as the rest of New York City. That doesn’t mean your should write the Slope off, however; our outer-borough status all but guarantees fewer crowds, ample space and a distinctive lack of nightmare drunkards. Eschewing our usual format, this week the Late Shift rounded up the best area bars for St. Patty's revelry.

The reborn Freddy's will be celebrating  in style with a free music showcase featuring The Captures, The Telephones and The Highland Shatners, beginning at 8 p.m. Early birds are in luck, as Freddy's will also be doling out $2 Miller High Life and Pabst Blue Ribbon, and $5 whiskey shots until 8 p.m. (afterward, $3 and $6, respectively).

This Thursday, Tongue 'n Cheek will be taking over Bar Reis for "Brooklyn's Third Thursday Girl Party." DJ Angel Boi will be spinning in the basement, and the bar will be offering $5 pints and Absolut cocktails all night long. Drink Specials in honor of St. Pat's include $4 Guinness pints and $4 Jameson shots. For patrons that happen to find a charm on their glass, the drink is on the house ($5 cover charge).

This legendary Park Slope haunt has made a name catering to the late night drunk-n-hungry set — St. Patrick's Day just means they might be starting a little bit earlier. Dram's kitchen will be producing what is sure to be a fine corned beef and cabbage special ($10), and the bar will be offering a $10 Guinness/Jameson combo all night long.

This worn-and-weathered Irish spot has a lot going for it this coming Thursday, not least of which is "the freshest Guinness in the area." Those looking to celebrate on the cheap will be pleased with the Smith's all-night offerings, including $2.50 mugs of Budweiser and Bud Lite, $3.50 domestic pints and $5 well drinks, all accompanied by traditional Irish tunes from the jukebox. Early birds will also find themselves gifted with a complimentars corned beef and cabbage spread, courtesy the bar.

In addition to vast quantaties of holiday cheer, this massive Park Slope sports bar will beserving up their own corned beef special plus two sides, all for $16.95. Patrons will also find a number of happy hour and all-night specials, including Guinness pints, Magner's cider and more. For those deeply involved in the drama of March madness, but don't want to miss out on all of the fun, this is the place to be.
