Parking Permits: Good or Bad Idea?

HuffPost blogger says Barclay's Center traffic has changed the area.

For at least one Huffington Post blogger, the Barclay's Center has created a new reality for Park Slope, and it isn't a good one: "Cars speed through our side streets, causing traffic and accidents, not to mention a complete absence of parking spaces."

Luckily, the blogger, author Jay Michaelson, has an idea: permits.

"The affected parts of Brooklyn should have the same system. Go to the DMV -- conveniently, right across from Barclay's Center -- and bring a utility bill and your vehicle registration. Pay 25 bucks. Get a sticker that's non-transferable, tied to your license plate. Affix sticker. Problem solved. No more parking lock-outs, but much more importantly, no more fans speeding through our streets, desperate for a spot," he wrote.

Given the gridlock that's sure to hit the area on Sunday, when MTV's parades its Video Music Awards into the Atlantic Yards arena, we wonder what you think about Michaelson's idea.
