Car Strikes, Kills 12-Year-Old Boy in Park Slope

A 12-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car at Prospect Park West and 3rd Street Oct. 8. Investigators say that the child ran into Prospect Park West from the east side when he was struck by a white 2006 Chevrolet van heading southbound on Prospect Park West at 5:15 p.m. The boy, who police identified as Samuel Cohen-Eckstein, was brought to Methodist Hospital by EMS. He was pronounced DOA. 

One Killed, One Hospitalized After Barclays Center Subway Incident

One person was killed by a train at the Atlantic Avenue/Barclays Center subway station Oct. 10. Police said the victim, a woman, may have jumped in front of the train.

Hundreds in Park Slope Hosting on AirBnB

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman recently demanded that AirBnB, the temporary apartment sharing site, turnover information on its users —specifically those renting out their homes on a temporary basis. The attorney general gave the site until Today, Oct. 14 to do so, as the site is operating against the New York State occupancy code,based on a judge's decision from earlier this year. 

Park Slope's Oyster Bar Brooklyn Names Exec Chef

Oyster Bar Brooklyn is coming to Park Slope before year's end, and it recently took a large step towards opening.

Franchise owners Bruce Fox and Jonathan Young have announced Justin Ernsberger as their executive chef. Ernsberger is a 1997 graduate of the French Culinary Institute, earning the prestigious Grand Diplome, and gained experience at New York City eateries such as Aquagrill and Jean-Georges.

Park Slope Pre-School Director Ordered to Resign, Pay $240K

During her time as Executive Director of the nonprofit Therapy and Learning Center in South Slope, Silvia Kuper used over $200,000 in school funds for personal use, an investigation by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman found.
