Ongoing Stories to Follow in 2014

What developing stories do you need to keep an eye on in 2014.

2013 may be winding down, but that doesn't mean all the issues from the year are resolved. There are many ongoing stories in Park Slope that you should keep an eye on as we head into 2014. Here's a rundown:

Methodist Hospital Expansion
While certain Brooklyn hospitals fight for their lives, New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope is looking to expand. While that's good news, the initial expansion plans upset many in Park Slope. Plans included the demolition of many historic Brownstones and a massive expansion that many took issue with. Initial plans were slightly revised, but those plans were also rejected by Community Board 6 and a full board meeting will be held Jan. 6 as developments continue into the new year.

Bill de Blasio: Year One
Park Slope's own was overwhelmingly elected as the new NYC Mayor in November. Many locals wonder how his Park Slope ties will change and, of course, if he will stick to his campaign promises. His first year in office should answer a lot of questions.

Business and Real Estate Developments
Park Slope continues to develop as one of the most popular -- and expensive -- places to live and own a business in Brooklyn. Many near the Barclays Center have been forced to move or close due to skyrocketing rent. Other vacancies around the area continue to linger, while new businesses pop up seemingly every week. Stay with Patch for business and real estate updates throughout 2014.
