On The Blogs

Our weekly round-up of what others are saying and reporting about the neighborhood.

This week Here’s Park Slope brought word the Columbia, a new (you guessed it!) Columbian restaurant has opened shop in the old Polio space on Fifth Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets. On Thursday, blogger Dan Myers also took the time to chat with Louise Crawford, founder of Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn and Park Slope Patch . Myers also spotted signage for the new Vietnamese restaurant coming to the old Second Helpings space on Ninth Street near Seventh Avenue (finally! Pho!).

By now, nearly everybody has probably heard that a post Effed in Park Slope did about nannies working Park Slope Food Coop shifts fueled the New York Times to dig a tiny bit deeper into the issue. The blog also has a cool new feature that we’re really digging called “What You Should Order At…”. This week’s pick is the octopus at Thistle Hill Tavern.

Speaking of the New York Times, this week the paper’s City Room blog revisited the mysterious thief of Barbès mascot, as stature of José Gregorio, which was stolen from the bar way back on Jan. 10.

Again Brownstoner had a lot of Slope news this week. The blog revealed that the Karl Fisher condo building on 16th Street near Fifth Avenue will be remarketed as a rental building.

Only the Blog Knows Brooklyn had news from Councilmember Stephen Levin. According to the post, Levin says that in the past weeks “local activism and organizing has had a real positive effect” on communities in his district.
