On Saturday, A Jingle Jog

The New York Road Runners take a holiday jog through Prospect Park

This year, the New York Marathon isn't the only race in Brooklyn.

Tomorrow the New York Road Runners will take part in a chilly Jingle Bell Jog, a four-mile, 9:00 a.m. race through Prospect Park expected to raise more than $75,000 for health programs in New York City public schools.

"For the New York Road Runners' inaugural Jingle Bell Jog, I can't think of a more perfect setting than Brooklyn's beautiful and iconic Prospect Park," said Borough President Marty Markowitz.

"The four-mile race will not only help runners burn off some of those holiday calories, but will also benefit our City's public school students and teach our kids that running can be part of a healthy lifestyle into adulthood," he added.

To keep in step with the holiday spirit of giving, the proceeds from each entry fee of $40-$55 will allow one New York City student to participate in NYRR's school-based youth health and fitness programs.

The NYRR serve over 10,000 children in 84 Brooklyn public schools with its Young Runners and Mighty Milers programs and through events that include Youth Jamborees and a Developmental Track & Field Series.

"Running benefits kids in many ways," said NYRR Youth and Community Services Executive Director Cliff Sperber. "It makes them healthier and fitter while also teaching life lessons about goal-setting, perseverance, team building, and leadership."

Anyone interested can still register for the event up until 8:30 a.m on race day. Or you can just head out to watch people run in the freezing cold!
