Mysterious White Flags Fly Above the Brooklyn Bridge

White flags have mysteriously replaced the American flags typically stationed atop the Brooklyn Bridge. NYPD is investigating.

Police are investigating the mysterious appearance of white flags in place of the two American flags typically atop the Brooklyn Bridge.

The flags were first noticed on Tuesday, and police were at the scene investigating early in the morning. Signs posted near the bridge declare that the area is under surveillance, according to CBS New York.

Councilman Mark Weprin tweeted a photo of the flag, with the question on everybody’s mind, “Why are there white flags on top of the Brooklyn Bridge?”

Later Tuesday, Weprin released a statement calling for a full investigation of what he called a "white flag security breach" at the bridge.

"I strongly urge the NYPD to investigate how someone was able to bypass both patrol cars and security cameras to gain access to the bridge," Weprin said. "New Yorkers have the right to know who is responsible and how this serious security breach could occur at such a prominent City landmark."
