Why Go: Come and check out Summer Fiction, the new music project from Bill Ricchini. The self-titled debut album was recorded in Philadelphia studios, bedrooms and church basements and features a cast of over 20 classical and rock musicians including a string quartet, horns and members of Philly bands like Buried Beds, and BC Camplight.

Why Go: The opening reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. and showcase Victoria Behm's exhibit, an eclectic display of her multiple artistic obsessions. Her work includes elegant grid paintings, in encaustic and oil on canvas, wood-cut prints she made on an old press at a Mayan paper cooperative in San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico and quirky pen and ink drawings covering a range of subjects, reflecting Behm's broad life experiences and intimate daily encounters.

Why Go: Andrew Demetre, New York-based cultural adventurer/writer/performer, will put on an evocative monologue and DJ set. Alone on stage, armed with an iPod, he will take the audience on a musical and spoken word journey to Xinjiang Province, Far Western China—the traditional lands of the Uyghur people. Radio XUAR: The Unheard Music, will pay homage to important Uyghur musical figures and their struggle to squeeze their expression through the censors of the Communist Party of China while trying to keep their musical and cultural legacies, and sometimes themselves, alive.
