Why Go: Because the sounds and styles of New York vocalist/composer Jocelyn Medina cross cultures, creeds and continents. Her original tunes fuse inspiration from Brazil, Spain, Africa and India with jazz harmonies, funk grooves and adventurous improvisations.

Cost: Free! 

Where/When: , Third Street and Prospect Park West, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Bring your holiday tree to the Third Street entrance of Prospect Park and it will be turned into mulch for healthy ground cover. Watch your tree go into the chipper and become environment-friendly mulch. Plus, you can take some home for your own yard or garden! Remember to remove all decorations from the trees.

Where/When: , 200 Eastern Parkway, Saturday at 5 p.m.

Why Go: Come to hear music, see a film and talk with artist Lyle Ashton Harris discuss works by himself and others in the exhibition HIDE/SEEK: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture, which explores issues of identity, family, gender, masculinity, and race

Where/When: Park Slope Farmers Market, Fifth Ave and Fourth St, Sunday at 11 a.m.

Why Go: Come and do your grocery shopping! The vendors at the Park Slope 2012 Winter Farmers Market include: Fork and Glass, American Pride Seafood, Bombay Emerald Chutney Company, Bread Alone, Brooklyn Cured, Dr. Pickle, Breezy Hill Orchards, Feather Ridge Farm, Hudson Valley Duck, Jersey Farm Produce, Migliorelli Farm, Mortgage Apple Cakes, The Pastures, Raaka Chocolate, Tierra Farm, YisRoyal, Flour City Pasta, Barry’s Tempeh, and Calcutta Kitchens.
