Why Go: Watch Two Lovers. A 2008 film about a Brighton Beach family starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Joaquin Phoenix. Director James Gray will attend a Q&A after the 7 p.m. film.

Why Go: Because you need to celebrate the King of Pop's birthday. During this day-long celebration of the man, the myth and legend, hosted by Spike Lee, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks*, Spike DDB & The Republic of Brooklyn, crowds of people will be moved by Michael's music at the Nethermead Theater. DJ Spinna will be on the wheels of steel.

Cost: Free!

Where/When: , Navy St & Park Ave, Saturday and Sunday, all day. 

Why Go: People come from all over the globe to catch this show, why wouldn't you go? Come to watch artists like Cee Lo Green, Santigold, Janelle Monae, Fishbone, Das Racist, and many more. Plus there will be a skate & BMX competition, food trucks, and a custom bike show.


Where/When: Prospect Park, Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Grab the kids and head to the Lefferts House in Prospect Park for an afternoon of songs and storytelling by Lefferts House musician and yarn-spinner Tammy Hall.

Cost: Free!

Where/When: The Gowanus Dredgers Boat House (Gowanus and Second Street), Saturday.

Why Go: Get out of the house and see Brooklyn from a canoe! Every Saturday, Brooklynites can head down to the Gowanus Dredgers’ headquarters and rent a canoe for free.

Cost: Free!

Where/When: , Sunday at 1 p.m.

Why Go: Head to the monthly Kings County General Store to snatch up great design, art, clothing and more. And while you’re there, be sure to check out all the yummy food vendors.
