Why Go: Score great books, plus DVDs, records and more, for fire sale prices at this much-loved Park Slope Tradition. Pocket-sized paperbacks are $1, trade paperbacks and hardcovers are $2, records are $1 and DVDs are $4.

Where/When: Barbes; Friday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Head to Barbes on Friday night for a rather unusual performance: Songs for Unusual Creatures, a live band that celebrates the sounds of unusual animals. Listen as sounds of animals such as the Australian Bilby are brought to musical life.

Where/ When: ; Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: If funny animal sounds isn’t your thing, there is more music in the neighborhood this Saturday. At the Old Stone House, Slope resident Dr. Thomas Millioto presents an evening of 19th century classical guitar, played on a period instrument. He’ll be accompanied by mezzo-soprano Mary Bowen and singer/songwriter Lisa Brigantino on mandolin.

Cost: $15

 

Where/ When: ; Sunday 4-6 p.m.

Why Go: This Sunday is your last chance to catch the at the Old Stone House, group art show on historical themes. And we all know what happens when you miss the G train.

Cost: Free!

 

Where/When: ; Sunday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: If cuddling up on the couch to watch the Oscars isn’t your style, then head to Union Hall on Sunday to watch the main event (and of course the pre-show) on the big screen. Cast your ballot for the winners (and win prizes yourself) and indulge in great drink specials, like the True Grit – a tall boy and a shot of whiskey.
