Five Free(ish) Tips for Last Minute Labor Day Planners

Haven't tied down your Monday plans? No problem.

If you haven't staked out your Labor Day festivities yet—and if haven't fled upstate or shore-side for one last summer getaway before the leaves start to turn—Park Slope Patch has you covered. Read on for a few last minute Labor Day events to celebrate in and around the Slope.


44th Annual West Indian American Carnival Parade
Where/When: Eastern Pkwy and Schenectady Ave., Today at 11:00 a.m.

Why Go: WIADCA holds its annual grand finale after a weekend of carnival celebrations. Starting at Eastern Parkway and winding its way to Flatbush Avenue, the parade is full of colors, glitter and festive music, and a great way to end the long holiday weekend. Bring the whole family and prepare to dance.

Where/When: Film Biz Recycling Prop Shop, 540 President Ave., Today at 12:00 p.m.

Why Go: We recently brought you news of - but here's a different kind of charity, in the form of a 50% off all merchandise clearance sale. Stop by the Prop Shop to find household accessories, building supplies and other practical film set memorabilia.

Cost: Free! (Except for what you buy.)

 

Back to School Bash!

Where/When: Habana Outpost, 757 Fulton St., at 12:00 p.m.

Why Go: While this is not technically inside Park Slope, this kid-friendly party is an excellent way for the young ones to prepare for a year in the class room. The restaurant hands out school-themed goody-bags and face panting, balloons, live musical performance and delicious food.

Last Day of Swimming at Thomas Greene Playground

Where/When: Third Ave. & Nevins St., Degraw & Douglas St., Today at 11:00 a.m.

Why Go: For many, Labor Day marks the true end of summer, so seize the last opportunity to splash around in the sun in the Thomas Greene outdoor pools. Remember pools close for cleaning from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.—perfect time to break for lunch and get back to the water.

Cost: Free!

 

Pay What You Want Yoga Class at Bodytonic

Where/When: BodyTonic Pilates, 150 Fifth Ave., Today at 11:00am

Why Go: Wind up the season with some balanced exercise at this pay-what-you-want yoga session. Labor Day marks the last of this series of classes, open to all skill levels.
