Don’t Get Towed! Move You Car, Eighth Ave is Being Repaired

Road repair will resume on Monday so make sure to move your parked car from Eighth Avenue between First and Union streets.

Eighth Avenue is getting a new, flat, pothole-free surface, but you need to move your car.

Road repair will resume on Monday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., between First and Union streets, making that section a tow away zone.

Last Monday, the Department of Transportation started ripping up Eighth Avenue's old, cratered surface and began lying down new asphalt from Prospect Avenue and finished work last week up to First Street.

On Tuesday at the same time, between Union Street and Flatbush there will also be no parking. But, by Wednesday, Eighth Avenue in Park Slope will have a brand new flat and pothole-free surface.

The new road, what a biker from Prospect Heights called a “cyclist’s dream” on Friday, is getting drivers of all modes of transportation excited.

“I think it is about time, Eighth Avenue is horrifying,” said Tony DeMatto, who is a doorman on the avenue near Montgomery Place and who drives from Dyker Heights to the Slope everyday.

DeMatto said that the avenue is riddled with potholes, raised manholes and ditches that have caused him a couple of flat tires. But with the repairs almost complete, he can rest assured that his ride will be a smooth one, at least on Eighth Avenue.
