The new signal was requested by Councilmember Brad Lander and was installed by the Department of Transportation this week. Like all green arrows, the other side has a delayed green, so the cars making a louie have time to make their move without sitting, inching and possibly getting caught in the intersection at a red light.

Lander tweeted "Thanks @NYC_DOT for new left-turn arrow we requested at 4th Ave & 9th St. It makes the intersection much safer."
