Boo at the Zoo

Prospect Park Zoo will get spooky next weekend.

The Prospect Park Zoo will give its fair share of thrills and chills this Halloween.

There are certainly a lot of choices available to Brooklynites looking for family Halloween activities, but one event you shouldn’t plan on missing is the Prospect Park Zoo’s annual "."

This two-day event, October 29 and 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., combines spooky-themed fun and your favorite zoo animals for a wild time. Baboon youngsters, Azizi and Jabari, will dig into their first pumpkins for a surprise and they are sure to be just as excited as the human onlookers to see what’s inside.

Visitors should also take the spooky barn tour where the barnyard animals have been replaced by...well, you’ll just have to see and find out.

  • Keeper Chats: Learn more about the animals from the people who take care of them at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Rodrigues Fruit Bat Exhibit.
  • Haunted Attractions: From 12 to 3:30 p.m. visit the Spooky Barn to see creepy creatures throughout the zoo and learn about bats in the nocturnal area.
  • Halloween Arts and Crafts: Zoo-goers can create Halloween bookmarks and other crafts to take home at the Animals in Art station from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Pumpkins for Baboons: Don’t miss the baboon troop smash their Halloween surprise at 2:30 p.m.
  • Face Painting: Become a Hamadryas baboon or a toucan for Halloween this year. Visitors can get in the spirit of the day with colorful face painting from 12 to 3 p.m. 
  • Wildlife Witch Shows: See a magical, educational play about creepy creatures and a witch’s potion. Live animals will be in the show and the audience will get to pet them. Show times: 12:30, 1:30, 2:00, 3:15, 3:45, and 4:30 p.m. at the Animals in our Lives Theater.
  • Spook-tacular Discovery Center: From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. visit the interactive education area where children can meet creepy crawlies, read Halloween stories, see our great horned owl and play some spooky games.

If two days of “Boo at the Zoo” isn’t spooky enough for you and the family the Queens Zoo will hold a special Halloween party on October 31 from 3 to 4 p.m. Party fees: $10 for adults and $3 for children. Pre-registration is required, please E-mail: qzeducation@wcs.org or call: 718-271-7361.
