Woman Assaulted on Seventh Ave. and 17th Street

Police investigate whether incident is part of recent string of attacks.

On Saturday at around 1:00 a.m., a woman was attacked and sexually groped by a man while walking down Seventh Avenue. The woman was walking toward 17th Street after exiting the Seventh Avenue and Ninth Street subway station, reports the New York Post.

The victim was attacked from behind and forcibly groped underneath her skirt, before the woman screamed for help and the assaulter fled.

The woman followed the man down 17th street and saw him escape in a cream/beige Chevy van.

The man is described as Hispanic, about 5'8" tall, and wearing a grey T-shirt.

This is the sixth report of a number of sexual assault crimes in the area, following an attempted rape on Friday near Prospect Avenue subway station.

The description of the attacker matches that of a man suspected of a string of sexual assault crimes that have plagued Park Slope, South Slope, Sunset Park, Bay Ridge and Greenwood Heights, since March of this year.

According to reports of the 72nd Precinct, this may be the work of the same serial rapist/assaulter who has been preying on women in their twenties and thirties since spring.

The DCPI says the incident is filed as a groping, is difficult to investigate since it was reported sixteen hours after the attack occurred, and as of now is "not part of a pattern."

People are asked to stay safe, exercise extra caution and remain vigilant, and to avoid walking alone at night.

The attack was also reported by Safe Slope. The community group is organizing a march on Fourth Ave on Sept. 14th to keep our streets safe.

IF you see or hear anything, call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). You can also send in tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers' website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting tips to CRIMES (274637), and enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.

These aren't the only incidents that have taken place on 17th St. & 4th Ave. I wrote a few months backs of at least 3 sexual attempts that I am aware of & even mentioned that yur paper should go to Earth's Basket on 17th & 4th, because the owner Sammy, helped 3 women from being raped. Since we are one block from the end of Park Slope, there was no reaction on yer end.

The community should show up at the The 72nd Precinct Community Council Meeting is held every second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 P.M. at Mariem Heim Center at 4520 4th Avenue. And speak up. There are NO patrol cars in the area, especially in the evenings. The area of repeating attacks is ridiculously small for the lack of police presence.

I've been to many community board meetings & they are worth their worth in dust. You attend the meetings, the cops promise to help, and lo and behold there is no help.
