Taqueria Reis Has Shuttered

The bar, however, will remain open.

Park Slope's best option for late night noshing is no more.

Taqueria Reis, the Mexico City-style taco joint adjoining longstanding Fifth Avenue watering hole Bar Reis, has shuttered.

The space closed shortly before the New Year, after owner Reis Goldberg decided it was just not meant to be—in the past year, the original Reis 100 Sandwich Factory had rebranded itself as a small-plates restaurant called Kitchen Reis in April, and then as the taco joint in September.

“It just didn’t perform,” said Goldberg of the eatery, which he first opened in July 2009. Goldberg’s original venture, Bar Reis, has been a mainstay of Park Slope nightlife for over a decade and will remain open.

Goldberg said he was miffed as to why the restaurant didn’t do better, given the Slope’s lack of options for late-night munchies.

“The food was always what I wanted it to be,” he said.

Goldberg has his fingers crossed that a new eatery will take over the space, and potentially supply Bar Reis with late night fare once again.
