Suspect Connected to 13th Sexual Assault Arrested

Police arrested a man connected to the 13th sexual attack since March. It is unclear if the suspect is connected to any of the 12 other incidents plaguing the area.

Aldolfo Martinez, 26, of Sunset Park was arrested Tuesday night in connection with the 13thsexual attack, facing charges of sexual abuse of the third degree and forcible touching, police said.

On Monday, October 10 at around 7:55 p.m., Martinez allegedly approached a young woman from behind on 36th Street, between Fourth and Fifth avenues, after she exited the subway station and allegedly groped the 18-year-old and fled, according to police.

Police picked up Martinez on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue in Sunset Park Tuesday night at 9 p.m.

It is unclear whether or not Martinez is connected to the string of 12 sexual attacks, including one rape, since March in Park Slope, South Slope, Sunset Park, Windsor Terrace and Greenwood Heights, but police said they are questioning him about the incidents.

Police are still not sure how many men are connected to the dozen sexual attacks. During the 72nd Precinct Community Council meeting on Tuesday night, Deputy Inspector Jesus Pintos, commanding officer of the 72nd Precinct said, "We're not talking about a serial groper.”

He added that the number of suspects is "definitely more than one."

Also, during the meeting, police announced that they have raised the reward for any information leading to an arrest from $500 to $2,000.

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio released a safety brochure on Tuesday on how the community can help prevent public sexual assault and harassment.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto Crime Stoppers' website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577.
