Seventh Avenue Wine and Tapas Bar to be a Yoga Studio

The old tapas and wine bar on Seventh Avenue will soon be a place to stretch, meditate and exercise.

There will be no more wining and dining at the corner of Seventh Avenue and Garfield Place.

The two Seventh Avenue storefronts— and —have been closed for some time, but construction is underway to transform the half-block long storefront into a yoga studio.

On Tuesday, a construction crew started demolishing the fancy small plate joint with sledgehammers, a chainsaw and removed over 200 bottles of wine to make room for a studio dedicated to the ancient Indian practice between Garfield Place and First Street, according to the crew’s foreman, Andy Monegro, who works for B&M Cleanup Services.

Joe Richards, who has lived on Second Street since the early 1980s, said he will miss the wine bar.

“It’s sad to see a restaurant leaving, I liked the idea of a wine bar on Seventh Avenue,” Richards said while standing in front of the space on Tuesday. “But a yoga studio will be a good fit and will bring diversity.”

The important thing for Richards is that the space will not be vacant for much longer.

“I am just happy to know that I will not see another vacant storefront on Seventh Avenue,” Richards said.
