UPDATE: Scalino Seized by the Taxman

The Seventh Avenue Italian eatery was seized by the state tax agency on Wednesday.

UPDATE 2/19 10 a.m: True to his word, owner Matthew Yaksick reopened Scalino yesterday.

It’s not even April, and already the taxman has claimed its Park Slope first victim.

Seventh Avenue Italian spot Scalino was seized by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance on Wednesday, owing to four separate warrants for unpaid taxes.

The largest of the warrants is for $112,840, according to a spokesperson for the state Department of Taxation and Finance.

The oldest warrant dates back to August 2008 – not even a year after the eatery opened its doors on Seventh Avenue and 10th Street in the spring of 2007.

But fans of the rustic Italian eatery’s revered cookery should fear not: owner Matthew Yaksick said the restaurant is at no risk of closing for good.

“I’m just sorting something out with the agency. I do plan to reopen either tomorrow or Tuesday,” he said on Thursday afternoon.

If the restaurant does not pay its back taxes in time, an inventory will be taken of the restaurant’s property and it will be auctioned off to the public.
