Four Park Slope Landlords Make Public Advocate's Worst Landlords List of 2012

Do you think you have the worst landlord? How many violations does your Park Slope building have?

On Monday, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio announced the latest additions to his New York City’s Worst Landlords Watch List for 2012.

According to de Blasio, there are now 330 landlords in New York City listed who own a total of 360 buildings. Since last year, 255 buildings were removed from the Watch List because violations like pest infestations, lead-based paint and mold have been fixed. 

There were four Park Slope landlords considered to be “the worst” this year, the . 

All landlords on the Watch List have no less than two hazardous housing code violations per unit, like no heat or hot water, lead paint, toxic mold or broken plumbing.

The reason for the list, de Blasio said, is to put pressure on landlords who continuously endanger their residents by keeping buildings in such dangerous disrepair.   

“You’d be surprised where we found some of these buildings,” Public Advocate Bill de Blasio told Patch. “We walk past them every day, even here in Park Slope. It takes years of neglect for a building to deteriorate to the point where it ends up on our Watch List. But with enough public pressure and strong tenant organizing, we can turn these buildings around and make life better for thousands of New Yorkers.”

Here’s the rundown of the worst landlords in Park Slope:

• Number 11 was Nicholas Gordon of Prime Properties of New York Inc. who owns 304 10th Street and has a total of 224 violations, which is 34 more than the last inspection on 4/5/11.
• Number 27 was Douglas Rosenberg, of 578 Union St. Realty Corp., who owns 578 Union Street, which has 164 violations. Since 4/17/2012, there has been seven more violations.
• Number 60 was Barton Schwartz of 294 Fifth Avenue Associates LLC, who owns 294 Fifth Avenue. His building has 126 violations, which is seven less than the last inspection on 6/21/2011.
• Number 162 was Isaac Rabinovich of Southeast Fourth Corporation, who owns 597 Fourth Avenue. His building has 20 violations.
