Police: Sexual Assaults Have Increased in Park Slope

According to the 78 Precinct's Deputy Inspector, the number of sexual assaults have risen in the area.

Although most of the occurred in the 72 Police Precinct, the number of sexual assaults have risen in Park Slope, which is in the 78 Precinct, according to Deputy Inspector John Argenziano.

“We have seen a slight increase in crimes of that nature,” Deputy Inspector Argenziano said in a Community Board 6 Public Safety meeting Monday night. “There have been a couple more incidents of sexual assault in the area.”

According to the 78 Precinct’s crime statistics there were seven rapes this year to date, which are not connected to the string of attacks since March, and only five in 2010. This year to date there were 27 misdemeanor sex crimes and only 17 in 2010.

In connection to the string of attacks, there have been seven reported sexual assaults that have happened in the 78 Precinct since March. .

The seventh attack in the Precinct’s confines, occurred on . She screamed and her neighbors chased the man away at around 11:30 p.m.

Deputy Inspector Argenziano said there are four sketches of suspects and there are up to 20 incidents of sexual assaults they are investigating with the 72 Precinct. 

He also said that there is an increased police presence in the area.

“We are confident we’ll solve this,” he said.
