Police Officer Charged with DWI

Today an officer was charged with driving under the influence.

A police officer was arrested early this morning and charged with driving under the influence, according to police.

Officer Sergio Gonzalez was arrested at around 1:17 a.m., though police could not confirm whether the incident was related to a car crash that occurred at the same time on Fifth Avenue, as reported by the Brooklyn Paper.

According to the paper, early this morning a speeding reckless driver slammed into a police car and a parked car on Fifth Avenue near Sixth Street at around 1:15 a.m.

Andrew Lutes, a bystander, told the paper that he witnessed the driver of the crashed vehicle attempt to “stash a white plastic bag in front of Bar Reis.”

Two police officers were taken to Methodist Hospital with minor injuries.

The arrested officer is still under investigation.
