Police Blotter: Mother’s Purse Stolen from Stroller

Purse in Stroller Heist 

A crook stole a woman’s purse, with almost ten credit cards, her designer eyeglasses and medication inside, from her son’s stroller on 11th Street on Aug. 29.

The 35-year-old woman told police that her child walked away from the stroller, which was parked between Seventh and Eighth avenues, at around 6:30 p.m. She went to get her son, leaving her purse in the stroller. Within two minutes, someone stole her bag. The crook got away with seven credit cards, a driver’s license, designer prescription eyeglasses and a prescription bottle of painkillers. The woman cancelled her credit cards immediately. 

Bad Employee  

An employee of a Butler Street business stole $1,460 in cash during a delivery and was caught on surveillance video on Aug. 29.

Another employee of Mamtakim an online grocery store, a 48-year-old woman, told police that the employee-turned crook took $1,460 in cash during a delivery. The entire transaction was caught on the store’s security cameras. 

Wallet Lifted in a Bank

A thief snatched a man’s wallet while he was depositing a check in a Fifth Avenue bank on Aug. 29.

The 29-year-old victim told police that he removed his wallet from his pocket while he was filing out a deposit slip at the Bank of America between 14th and 15th streets at around 10:20 a.m. He went to the teller, leaving his wallet on the counter in the middle of the bank, to deposit a check. When he realized he left his wallet, he went back for it, but it was gone. The crook got away with three credit cards, $30 in cash, a driver’s license and his debit card, which had a $25,000 balance. There were no witnesses, but surveillance cameras were at the bank and the police are investigating. 

School Break-in

A man attempted to burglarize a public school on Park Place, but fled after the alarm went off on Aug. 30.

An employee of P.S. 77, a 40-year-old man, told police that he was in the school, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, but at around 6 p.m. a man entered through the emergency exit on Sterling Place. The crook entered with an unknown device and popped the “panic bar,” which opened the inside door, but damaged its locking device. No items were stolen and the man fled in an unknown direction after the motion sensors went off.
