Slopers concluded their Fourth of July shenanigans and hit the streets this past Tuesday for the start of the Dancing Under the Stars series, Park Slope's weekly summer event featuring two consecutive nights of live music.

Yesterday's Dancing Under the Stars was the first of the series dedicated exclusively to youngsters, and featured local children's music group Rolie Polie Guacamole.

Many camped out on the ground with mom and dad or sat cross-legged and watched the band play, but many more, despite the high temperature and humidity, couldn't stop shakin' it for nearly the entire hour of the band's set, which featured tunes like "This Land is Your Land," and "Rolie Polie Guacamole." 

During "Time for Hummus," a local favorite, lead singer Frank Gallo surveyed the crowd of youngsters for hummus ingredients and received enthusiastic suggestions like "spinach," "brussel sprouts," and "cheese."

The adult Tuesday night dance parties start at 7 p.m., and the kids' Wednesday nights kick off at 6 p.m. and go 'til 7 p.m. Rolie Polie will be providing the Wednesday night entertainment for most of the series.

"I've seen them before at Atlantic Antic," said local Pedro Grant, about Rolie Polie. "I know they have quite a following."

It's just a lot of fun," said friend Alex Richards. "It's nice to see so many kids around, having a good time."
