Pavilion Staff Blames Ownership for Decaying Theater

The staff apologizes for the decaying state of the theater.

The Pavilion Theater’s staff is apologizing for its mess — though still won’t admit to any truth in the bed bug rumors.

After two managers of the theater sent an E-mail to Park Slope Parents apologizing for the deteriorating state of the theater, Assistant General Manager Jennifer Duran told Patch that the theater’s managers have made constant requests to the theater’s owners, the digital cinema company Cinedigm, to fix up the theater.

“We want you guys to know its not that we’re not doing anything,” said Duran. “We as managers do what we can. It’s in corporate’s hands.”

The Pavilion was family-run before Cinedigm purchased the theater to use as its “digital showcase theater” several years back. Duran believes that the primary function of the theater is to serve as a test site for Cinedigm digital movie technology, and is perhaps the reason why endless requests for repairs from theater staff are never met with any answers at all from the company.

“Personally, feel like corporate doesn’t care about this place at all,” she said.

The managers of the theater were inspired to apologize to the community for the condition of the theater after a customer complained about getting bit during a movie over the weekend, and criticized that all a manager could do for her was apologize.

The theater has several times over been accused of having bed bugs over the past two years, but Duran maintains that the theater has never had bed bugs and gets exterminated every month a preventative measure.

“I came to this theater when it first opened in 1997. It was beautiful,” said Duran. “It’s so sad to see it fall apart like this.”

Cinedigm did not return a call for comment by press time.
