La Taqueria Has Shuttered

Months after the sit-down portion shuttered, the entire restaurant has closed for good.

For Slope burrito lovers, today will be remembered as a day of mourning.

Today Seventh Avenue Mexican mainstay shut its doors for good. Back in October, the sit-down side of the eatery shuttered owing to high rent and slow business, and now it seems the take-out side will shutter for similar reasons after 20 years in business.

“It’s just the way it is,” said owner Martin Medina, who also owns Fifth Avenue’s Rachel’s Taqueria. “It’s the economy, it’s rent, it’s tough times.”

Lovers of La Taqueria’s giant burritos can still get their fix at Rachel’s Taqueria, which serves essentially the same menu.

Still, some Park Slope residents were saddened by the news.

“This is a tragedy. La Taq serves the only good burritos in Park Slope and had great rotisserie chicken as well,” nearby First Street resident Ben Kochman wrote Patch in an E-mail. “And if the space gets replaced with a Chipotle franchise, I will cry.”
