UPDATE: Gowanus Woman Struck and Killed
A fatal afternoon car wreck left a Gowanus woman dead
Update: Miguel Morales, the son of Carmen Morales, wrote Patch earlier this morning. "That woman is my mother. This is a tragic for us," he said.
A Gowanus pedestrian was struck and killed earlier today when an oil truck took a fatal right hand turn into a crosswalk.
Carmen Morales, 62, was crossing the street at Second Avenue and 12th Street in Gowanus when the southbound oil truck made the turn onto westbound 12th Street. The 78th Precinct responded to the call at around 1:07 p.m. EMS arrived on the scene and transported Morales to Methodist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Morales was a resident of nearby 15th Street, between Second and Third Avenues.

I hope Deputy Inspector Argenziano has the guts to go with CRIMINAL charges for the motorist responsible.

Any details about who was at fault? Any charges against the driver? Will this person who does not know how to operate his truck safely continue to be allowed to drive on Brooklyn streets? Does Marty Markowitz have anything to say about this senseless but all-too-typical tragedy or is he still busy complaining about bike lanes?
