UPDATE: Gowanus Woman Struck and Killed

A fatal afternoon car wreck left a Gowanus woman dead

Update: Miguel Morales, the son of Carmen Morales, wrote Patch earlier this morning. "That woman is my mother. This is a tragic for us," he said.

A Gowanus pedestrian was struck and killed earlier today when an oil truck took a fatal right hand turn into a crosswalk.

Carmen Morales, 62, was crossing the street at Second Avenue and 12th Street in Gowanus when the southbound oil truck made the turn onto westbound 12th Street. The responded to the call at around 1:07 p.m. EMS arrived on the scene and transported Morales to Methodist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Morales was a resident of nearby 15th Street, between Second and Third Avenues.
